5 Bathroom Trends of 2024

Bespoke bathrooms are where we shine! Remodeling a bathroom that's dated is always a fun and challenging project, especially when we're trying to elevate the space. Whether we're gutting and starting from scratch or doing a few minor upgrades, nothing about the project should be taken lightly.

But it never fails that we're always asked what the latest trends are. We get it! You want to know what will make your home more modern and potentially catch a buyer's eye should you ever need to sell. While the team here at Morrissey Design + Build will always stress creating spaces that fit your unique style, some things can intersect. Your style and the trends can align. And when that happens, things are magical! So, if you're looking to remodel a primary bathroom, a kids' bathroom, or a half bath in 2024, here are some of the trends to watch.

2024 Bathroom Trends

  1. Walk-In Showers

Walk-in showers have become increasingly popular in recent years. This trend will continue in 2024 as homeowners continue to shift towards simpler and more functional designs. Walk-in shower stalls with solid tile walls eliminate the need for shower doors, making the bathroom appear more spacious and luxurious. They're also convenient for people with mobility issues as they allow for easy movement when taking a shower. The thresholds for these walk-in showers are low, meaning they're ideal for an in-law's quarters or primary bathrooms where a large tub may not be necessary.

  2. Smart Bathrooms

Technology is making its way into every aspect of our lives, and the bathroom is no exception. Smart bathrooms will be a trend in 2024, with features such as temperature control, lighting, and music all being controlled by voice commands. Voice-activated toilets and showers will also become more common. We're also seeing a lot of this with smart mirrors and motion-activated faucets, elevating the home bathroom experience.

  3. Natural Elements

Another trend that will become popular in 2024 is bringing the outdoors in. Natural elements such as wood, stone, and plants will be used to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere. The natural look of wood contrasted with darker countertops, tiles, and fixtures is always a nice touch and produces a sophisticated, spa-like atmosphere. We see this a lot already in primary bathrooms but expect the trend to continue into the kids' bathrooms and half baths next year.

  4. Matte Black Fixtures

Matte black fixtures are an enduring and timeless trend that will continue to dominate in 2024. The sleek and modern look of matte black adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any bathroom. We work with these fixtures a lot, including shower heads, faucets, door handles, and mirrors. Everyone loves a good black outline that stands out from the rest of the bathroom. When contrasted with natural wood elements and lighter paint colors, matte black fixtures create that perfect focal point in the space.

  5. Double Vanity Sinks

Dual-sink vanities have been around for some time now, but they will continue to be a trend in 2024 as they accommodate the needs of larger families. A double vanity provides ample countertop space and storage for two people to get ready simultaneously, making it a practical and functional choice for any family. These are perfect for jack-and-jill bathrooms or for a primary bathroom. We're also seeing more custom-built vanity cabinets that provide even more storage beyond the traditional medicine mirror cabinet.

Other Bathroom Trends to Watch in 2024

Besides the trends mentioned above, there are a couple more to take note of as we approach 2024. Heated flooring is set to be a key player in the upcoming trends, offering a touch of luxury and extra comfort to those chilly mornings. The rising popularity of underfloor heating systems will see more people shifting from traditional to radiant heated floors. Additionally, the move towards freestanding tubs will continue to gain traction. These tubs, available in a variety of materials and designs, offer a luxurious, spa-like feel within the comfort of your own home. They serve as a statement piece, creating a focal point and adding a unique sense of character to the bathroom.
